Writing With Light

I picked up a handy little gadget today, the Pixel TC-252 intervalometer. It compliments my new Canon 550D perfectly!

Still to try out a lot of the features (in other words lots of Time-Lapses to come!), but so far I’ve been taken with messing with the Bulb function. By setting the camera’s shutter speed to Bulb mode, the shutter opens and doesn’t close until you release it. With the remote bulb function on the intervalometer, you can simply press a button to open the shutter and press it again to close. This also completely removes any slight shake that the camera might get from pressing the shutter button on the camera.

Shooting in “Manual” mode (as you should always do!), I set the aperture to F6, reduced the ISO to 100, set the shutter-speed to bulb and switched off any light optimising. Standing in the dark, myself and my girlfriend took turns waving a mobile phone around with the torch function switched on to try and “write” our names and “draw” pictures of stars, cats and hearts.
